Monday Morning Reflections – El Roi

I’m going to open this week up with Ann’s beautiful prayer in the middle of our reading today.
“Lord, I praise You for You know the whole story.  From beginning to end, You see it all.  Give me the humility to admit my limitations.  For I don’t always see the past accurately, my vision of the present is often blurred, and I am blind when it comes to the future.  Help me fasten my eyes on You, trusting in Your vision for my life and in your watchful care.”
LordsPrayerJesusCrying5[1] (2)Let this photo go along with your meditations of God as El Roi (EL raw-EE) this week.

Genesis 16:1-16 is our reading for this portion of our study.

Genesis 16:13-14 is the only place in the bible that El Roi is used.

“She gave this name to the LORD who spoke to her: "You are the God who sees me," for she said, "I have now seen the One who sees me." 14 That is why the well was called Beer Lahai Roi [the “well of the Living One who sees me”]; it is still there, between Kadesh and Bered.”

Once again God’s timing with this particular study is perfect in my walk with Him.   Last night my dreams kept awaking me and I began to pray, “El Roi You see me, help me to stop dreaming such horrible things and give me rest.”   I would fall back to sleep within minutes of being awake.  I would thank Him as I felt myself falling back to sleep.
Although this is the only mention of God’s name as El Roi – “the God who sees me”, it is NOT the only time we are told there is no place we could go where He would not know about it.  Later this week we will discuss more verses that will help us to remember just how much God cares for us and NEVER abandons us.

Knowing this truth has given me great peace as I have stepped out in faith to go places such as Korah last month.   There is not a footstep I could ever take that He will not go ahead of me.   Even when I am walking on a path He has not set  before me(meaning one I walk on without knowing He wants me there) He is there.  Even when I don’t “feel” Him, He is there.   Even when I can’t “see” Him in the circumstances, He is there.  Even when I don’t “understand” why I’m in a certain place, He is there.  Even when I can’t “hear” Him, He is there.

Our God loves us so much, He counts the very hairs on our head.   Jesus feels our pain and understands it.  He walked this earth and saw the troubles we all deal with day in and day out.  He sees them all today.  I believe He longs to come back to get us all and is praying for that day just as we are.  He is waiting for His Father to say, “Go get Your bride.”
That thought gives me great comfort too.   Knowing that Jesus is sitting at the right hand of God the Father, praying for me and is asking God to care for my needs – gives me great peace.

I like many of you forget just how big God is and sadly that translates into me not acting from His love, His power, and His grace all day long.  I forget that He sees me every single moment!  I don’t always think about Him being right here, right now no matter where I am.   This week as we study the name of God as El Roi, I pray to have this knowledge sink deep into my heart and soul.  I desire to remember that the God who created it all(Elohim) and me is the same God who see me at all times…with a desire to hold me up, comfort me, guide me and use me all for His glory.

Let us remember…

How thankful I am that we are studying and praying the names of God. It is so timely for me to focus on who He is. Knowing that El Roi sees me and knows all that is going on in my life is comforting.

How wonderful that we can each have different circumstances in our lives and yet He is El Roi to each of us.

Thank you Jill for doing this. I also appreciate the links you included in this post.

Love you,
Debbie

Blessings Jill,

I am so thankful that El Roi sees me! I praise Him this Monday morn' for shining His light through you and this study. Thank you Jill for your time and such beautiful words to inspire us. For today these are the ones who stand out:

"He is waiting for His Father to say, "Go, get Your Bride"

The sad part is that I don't think His bride is ready that there are many not unprepared and without any
surrender to Jesus or maybe knowledge, too many with hardened hearts and too many with proud hearts. Then there are the desolate, scorned, shunned, broken hearted, and we are failing reaching them or doing all we can.

Love your heart and love the heart of EL ROI. Looking forward for more.

I was ready with my post except for my prayers and was going to wait 'til Tues. or Thurs. because I already have 2 others on Monday but I put it up as is... and linked.

I'm new to your blog. And I don't have the book that you all are studying. But still, I thought I could benefit from gleaning through the posts that show glimpses of what you've learned. Today's is most fitting! I'm teaching about our ancestors in Genesis on Wednesday nights at church.... so I'll soon be discussing the scriptures that you posted here.

One thing that I tell God often in my own prayers (because of this Hagar-seeing-God-seeing-her experience) is that, "God, I need to see You seeing me...." because sometimes we just need to SEE Him seeing us.... KNOWING in our hearts that He's there, He's watching, He's with us, He cares, He's leading us, He wants to help us.... dot, dot, dot, etc! I love His name El Roi. It's a HUGE name... and one that so very often just does it for me, you know!

And too, I teach women classes in two prisons. And this, too, is a very favorite of theirs! For they need to KNOW (and sometimes be constantly reminded of) that God sees them even in there.... maybe especially so!

Thanks for your post. I'm gleaning from your field. :)

I know that He sees me but to try and grasp that concept is beyond my comprehension. He sees little ole me on this big earth and knows everything about me and wants to know me...that is mind boggling. I stand in AWE!
Thank you Thank you Thank you for sharing this. What a powerful picture too.
Hugs,
Mimi
